Welcome to Amas Veritas [dot] com

Updates: Media (lyrics) has a new layout. I could never figure out how to lay it out, but it's easier to navigate now. I'm still working on a better duplicate Mamblog mod. I'm trying to make submittions easier but the poetry form died for some reason. Quizzes are also on their way from the old site. Joomla content isn't very code friendly so I'm having to rewrite old code. You can still click on News > AH v21 > Screen if you wish to use the quizzes.

"Thanks for checking in with me. You were on my schedule to check in with later this week. There are basically two options here that I want to describe.

1. Withdrawing from the college. This is the process you would go through to basically remove yourself from the current semester. We would work together to complete a withdrawal form, you would be removed from current coursework, your transcript would have a notation of withdrawal on it (but of course no grades for the semester). Since we are far into the semester, there would not be any financial reimbursement (except perhaps minimal reimbursement if you are still listed on the meal plan--which may have been exempted when you moved back home) and if you are on financial aid, the semester would have to be counted as 1 of the 8 semesters of support you receive both in terms of federal and institutional aid. You would be eligible to return to Occidental for a future semester when you believe you are ready to reengage in your studies." ...

"2. Taking a Leave of absence. First you would complete the semester (see below for what I mean by "completing" the semester). [It seems just based on your email that this is NOT the option you were looking to explore, but I want to explain it in detail so you have all the information.] You would file for a leave of absence basically notifying us that you do not plan to return for the following semester or semesters. You would indicate on that form when you expected to return to Occidental, but you are not held absolutely to that deadline for return.

The process for return from BOTH of these options is the same. You fill out a one page form for the registrar's office indicating your desire to return to Occidental College, with a brief statement about why you are ready to return to the college attached. You would do this at least 30 days prior to the semester in which you are prepared to return.

Now some personal advice. I would advise that if you believe you can pull out a reasonable grade in even one of your classes without "injury" to your personal self (e.g., without deepening the personal issues that you are currently addressing), then we can work on withdrawing from individual classes, but trying to complete the semester with any remaining courses you believe you can complete. I have indicated to you previously that I will help you withdraw from any of your courses, including the CSP course, if you believe that you cannot complete them satisfactorily. After completing at least one course (even the 2 unit course if you think this is the only one you can complete satisfactorily), then we might consider filing for a leave of absence if you believe you will need more than just the summer to address the current personal issues.

However, if you believe that it is strongly in your best interest to immediately get away from this environment (i.e., classes and I'm sure the personal and psychological pressures these represent to you), and really spend more time as well as personal and emotional energy on addressing the issues facing you, then I would recommend withdrawing from the college at this time.

Certainly I would strongly advise you to discuss this before making a final decision with your therapist and your parents. I believe that they will move forward with you, with your best interest in mind.

At this time I will not contact your mother to talk about this personal discussion.

Please let me know your continued thoughts on this issue. In addition, please give me whatever update you can about your remaining courses -- did you contact each faculty member to discuss your current status, have you been attending classes, how do you perceive your current progress in the classes.

I look forward to hearing from you again very soon.

We can continue to discuss these issues over email. But of course you are always welcome to see me personally if you wish. You can set up an appt. with me via email or by calling ..."
