Welcome to Amas Veritas [dot] com

Updates: Media (lyrics) has a new layout. I could never figure out how to lay it out, but it's easier to navigate now. I'm still working on a better duplicate Mamblog mod. I'm trying to make submittions easier but the poetry form died for some reason. Quizzes are also on their way from the old site. Joomla content isn't very code friendly so I'm having to rewrite old code. You can still click on News > AH v21 > Screen if you wish to use the quizzes.

So here's a summer in California for those of you who live...elsewhere. I've been to Florida in the summer, I know what it's like. In California it's in the 90's in July, hot and cold and rainy and sunny in June, and about a thousand degress in August, but it's not humid. It's been over a hundred the past week or two (I never check the weather) and then a little while ago I hear this rumbling sound. I went out to the garage and it's raining but still very hot and dry. Then there was lightning and it started pouring. There was no indication this was coming, no heavy wind today to bring in a storm...usually weird weather means earthquake but you never know, you can never anticipate how each summer will be. We've had humid summers, but nothing like Florida. We've had rainy summers but probably not since El Nino hit like eleven or twelve years ago. Rainy and cold, fine. Rainy and a hundred degrees out is just unfair. It's not even cool rain. Scortching hot and wet isn't much better than scortching hot and dry.

Okay so I'm trying for the XHTML 1.0 STRICT validation. There are quite a number of differences from HTML, differences that require extra work and extra code and this whole transition phase from HTML 4 to XHTML and XML just confuses everything because of all the doubling up of work just to make it compatible with different browsers. Ever since XML came out I thought Microsoft and ASP and I've put off learning it for ages. Unfortunately, the Joomla! design contest requires XHTML 1.0 and CSS[2] validation. I don't even have a CSS2 book because the books I buy (O'Riley) haven't been published yet. I just need the CSS2 pocket reference but it won't be out until after the contest or way too late into it, I forget the exact date. So, I downloaded the .zip file for the CSS2 specification as well as the XHTML 1.0 specification and I've been using it for reference while I work. Then I throw in some XML stuff and it totally clashes with PHP, the browser thought it WAS PHP. Then I hear that PHP 4 is being discontinued at the end of the year so I have to get my websites switched over to PHP5 by then and last time I tried that all my sites went down. I don't know PHP well enough to know WHY they went down, .htaccess files are pretty foreign to me. There are only a few things I follow, like the rewrite or whatever to redirect URLs. I have that one pretty much down and I rely on it to get the right visitors to the right content/domain. I like HTML because it allows you to cheat and therefore work faster. I don't care if my HTML validates or not, as long as it works properly on the four main browsers and with what I know by heart, I don't have any problems there, I've been using it so long. With XHTML I have a feeling I'll be needing reference books with me at all times.

Well, with my dad working at the agency with us I'm having to get up earlier which makes me angry and he comments about my food and asks me what I'm going to eat for lunch. They know not to discuss food but it's like he doesn't realize that at home or at the office, it's no different. I'm not going to take it better in the office with other people around where I'm already unhappy and usually annoyed. He's always getting lunch and I've had Baja Fresh many more times than I would have if he hadn't bugged me about lunch and insisting he'll buy it and go wherever I want him to. It's hard to say no when he's always going out of his way to buy us all lunch from wherever we each want. It makes me angry sometimes because everyone knows I'm always trying to lose weight (and wouldn't be too skinny if I lost some right now) and yet everyone insists on offering me chips and cookies and candy and fast food. It's not at all thoughtful of them.

I want to sleep but it's so hot. I always have a fan going and my window's open but the fan's just blowing around hot air. The air conditioner just doesn't effect the temperature in my room because of my lizard's cage being at 110+ degrees. It's an easy 10-20 degrees temperature change the second you step inside my room. Argh.
