Welcome to Amas Veritas [dot] com

Updates: Media (lyrics) has a new layout. I could never figure out how to lay it out, but it's easier to navigate now. I'm still working on a better duplicate Mamblog mod. I'm trying to make submittions easier but the poetry form died for some reason. Quizzes are also on their way from the old site. Joomla content isn't very code friendly so I'm having to rewrite old code. You can still click on News > AH v21 > Screen if you wish to use the quizzes.

I finally broke down, I'll end up at 1057.50 (give or take) calories today. I'm really going to regret it but I would have really regretted not eating. I'm making "fancy rice" (from scratch). I used to totally live off this stuff, it was so good. The last time it didn't turn out like before but it's not something I have written down. I pick spices that smell good, not too sweet, add some HOT (some HOTs are better than others), some chicken broth (or beef or vegetable broth or make two pans, one with chicken one with beef and mix them AFTER cooking in their own flavored broth -- colorful and "gourmet"), add Risotto, bring to a boil, simmer for 15-25 minutes depending on your rice to broth ratio and your overall liquid absorption rate ;-) Hey, it may not even turn out but it smells good and last time I screwed up by adding cumin, cinnamon & garam masala (individually) which made for a disgusting sweet grossness. I left all those out this time. Anyhoo, I'm working on the new site design for AH v 21.0 as of last night. I think I've decided how I want to proceed. It's browns and skin tones with a single picture (not as the background) of MK with a purpley beaded crown-like thing lop-sided on her head. It's cool I think. My theme will either be "All that I've got" (lyrics by The Used) or "Nobody's Fool" (lyrics by Avril Lavigne). That's yet to be decided. Also, please welcome our newest member to Dragon-Ears: lookwithin.dragon-ears.com (SI: a look within). I just set up the subdomain last night so give her some time to set up. She's got an awesome site. I'm such an idiot too, when I changed some of the pages over there to PHP, I overrode the "index.php" page that runs the forms so I screwed that up. It's working now but that was dumb of me. Just the SMELL of this rice takes me back to the wonderful days of dorms at Oxy, my room-temperature rice which I'd eat from a plastic 6 inch ruler (it was the closest thing to a utensil I had). I've spent the last half hour perusing Oxy's website, looking at all the buildings that I remember walking by on my way to class, or to my dorm. I feel like I'm either going to throw up or start crying. It sucks that I was so close to finishing my freshman year and had to leave. I only had a month left. I don't even remember the second semester. It's all a haze of not following anything anyone was saying to me or at me. I was getting c's, d's and f's in all of my classes which lasted from 8am - 5pm (lectures in Calculus 2, Physics 2, and what I consider social science about Cesar Chavez and his...movement, plus a Calc. 2 LAB, a Physics lab, a Mathematica lab & lecture combined, and a literature discussion group of six students with the specific AGONIZING topic of Cesar Chavez and his MOVEMENT). I've never gotten a d or an f in my life. I finally had to have a private conference with each of my professors and explain to them that I might be leaving school but in case I didn't, did I still have a chance of passing, and what did I have to do to pull it off, the "social science" professor being a particular pain in my side -- an "afro-american" woman with a pretty large chip on her shoulder and something against blonde-haired blue-eyed freshmen who were (most likely) failing her class. I remember clearly that fated email to my Dean of Students, one Mr. Mickey McDonald, explaining that I had finally succumb to ... this thing I was inflicted with and that I would be taking a "medical leave of absence." Of course I had every intention of taking a brief hiatus and returning to school in the fall, like Marya Hornbacher at Interlochen, explaining to her writing teacher that she was just taking a break, and would be back. Alas, none of us ever return. Of course I returned to the HOSPITAL but the first time I was there it actually seemed like an enjoyable & safe place. The second time was just degrading. The locked unit is a joke, they took my shoe laces and told me I had to sit in the "tv room" and "socialize" (there was never anyone in there who was actually coherent) or they'd recommend I stay up there longer. It was particularly fun when they counted the percentage of my food that I had eaten (3%) and assumed that I just didn't like the taste and would I like them to have the cook prepare something different. Anyhoo (again), I was supposed to go to bed now to get 8 hours. I really wanted to get something PRODUCTIVE done with this site or anything really. Oh well. The American Heritage Dictionary defines "alumni" as "A male graduate or former student of a school, college, or university." So does that mean that all those people driving around with "Alumni -- UCLA" or "Alumni -- USC" or other didn't actually have to graduate to get those license plate frames? Do I get one from Oxy then?? I already have an "Occidental" frame that I got when I was accepted, I use it now as my show of support but I wonder what people would say if I had an "Alumni -- Occidental" license plate frame on my car, especially those who know I didn't graduate. What's proper etiquette these days? I want the Best Quality OXY License Plate Frame with "Alumni" at the top instead of "Tigers" and in chrome, not brass. I'm gonna be an idiot (again) and email the Oxy bookstore with my inquiry. I'd like someone's opinion who can't humiliate me to my face if the answer's no. Here's my letter to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it : "I went to Occidental but did not get my degree. In your opinion, should you have graduated from Oxy to have alumni merchandise? I want to show my support for the school and I am definitely a different person due to my experiences as a student there. Technically 'alumnus' does not signify that the person had to graduate from the institution. Since you guys work with people all the time, I thought you would have an idea of who typically purchases these items. I’m not sure who else to ask since I have a feeling this is a stupid question and since I don’t know you I’m not terribly concerned about asking. ;-) Thanks for your help and your time." *wink* I'll let you know if I receive a response. I want this really cool sweatshirt too. If you don't want to read it, the writing on the sweatshirt just says "Tigers" in felt lettering, "Occidental College Est. 1887" embroidered in orange, also embroidered with a tiger head. Of course it's by Jansport and sometimes Jansport sucks, or was it Russel that sucks? Oh well, you can return and/or exchange items. To bed (1:13am).
