From the VarsityEquestrian Website:
"I choose to compete within Varsity Equestrian because I saw all the amazing things varsity programs offered. Between the coaching staff, tutors, athletic trainers, and the facilities, I couldn't pass up an opportunity like that. They treated the riders as true athletes, and equestrian as a real sport." - OSU Student
The NCAA still doesn't treat Equestrian SPORTS as a real sport. If you view the NCAA website, it doesn't mention Equestrian in it's list of fall, winter, or spring sports. If you go to the flash page ncaastudents.org and try to create a personalized sports card (see below), Equestrian isn't an option when it asks your sport. How a college could list Cheerleading in their athletics department and not Equestrian is beyond me. Cheerleading should be in the Arts category, like dance and the marching band, not in athletics. Any sport included in the Olympic games should be listed FIRST as they are recognized by the WORLD as a sport worthy of recognition.
I don't like how Varsity Equestrian works. In the real world, you aren't going to compete on a horse you've never ridden. You're going to train for months or years on one or two main horses that you will compete all year on. Additional horses might be ridden for the horse's experience but not to win. When you go to the World Cup or the Olympics, you and that horse are a team and you know each other well. If not, you don't stand a chance.
My Sports Card (if it was the year 2000):
