Welcome to Amas Veritas [dot] com

Updates: Media (lyrics) has a new layout. I could never figure out how to lay it out, but it's easier to navigate now. I'm still working on a better duplicate Mamblog mod. I'm trying to make submittions easier but the poetry form died for some reason. Quizzes are also on their way from the old site. Joomla content isn't very code friendly so I'm having to rewrite old code. You can still click on News > AH v21 > Screen if you wish to use the quizzes.

"Eating Disorders: Families Fight Insurance Cos. - Newsweek Health - MSNBC.com"
I had Blue Shield -> Blue Cross Blue Shield of CA when they denied any coverage of treatment for my eating disorder. This article refers to Blue Cross of NJ or PA... $30,000 with a one month commitment was not something my parents were willing to cover, despite my leaving college ($30,000/year) and selling my horse ($13,000+/year) due to anorexia.  Why on earth would the insurance companies cover something my parent's wouldn't even cover.  I had already sliced myself up and ended up in the hospital twice for suicidal ideology and had spent the prior 6 months in partial hospitalization due to the fact that I was not getting better.  A regular hospital or psychiatric hospital is a horrible place for an eating disordered patient, especially if there are others there as well, it's like an all girls bording school or college dormatory.  Eating disorders feed off it, they get worse despite doctors looming.  They're not the RIGHT doctors, they aren't treating the eating disorder, they're trying to keep you from killing yourself an nothing else.  They don't care if you run around the campus at 7am, they aren't even around to stop you.  They don't care what or IF you eat.  I am fully prepared to die from this, FULLY prepared.  How can insurance companies cover drug rehab, illness due to smoking or drinking, but not eating disorders?  Maybe there could be a history taken by a QUALIFIED eating disorder specialist evaluating need (is it really an eating disorder or maybe a month-long cry for attention that needs a different kind of treatment--meaning are they faking, have other treatments been tried and have failed, do they want to get better). Most doctors are not qualified, most psychiatrists are too busy to care, to look underneath for the truth, most therapists are uneducated, inexperienced.  I WANTED to get better, there was an obvious, OBVIOUS, need for another option since I had run out.  I was forced to give up the fight and go it alone, without hospitals or doctors, just a psychologist to keep me afloat.  That's what I'm left with I guess.  We'll see if some day I can't do it anymore, can't hold myself upright, can't register as mass on a bathroom scale.  I'm prepared though, whatever happens.  And they ask why I  would never work in an insurance company.  They only let people die.  'Thin' is on HBO again tomorrow at 8pm and I will tape it but I can't watch it.  I want it too badly, both to be so thin and to have some place to go to find the answers.  Some quotes I fully agree with or have thought to myself before: "But she said that she struggles to find satisfaction in her other achievements and said, 'I just want to be thin. If it takes dying to get there, so be it. At least I’ll get there.'", "Alisa described having an eating disorder as being in a tunnel. They never talk about boys or celebrities.", "People need to see that you would never choose this. People don’t have a choice about it. You need to want to quit starving.", "People do get better. It’s my understanding though that you get better over a period of four to seven years and insurance won’t cover that. Plus, this is a very difficult population to deal with. It’s an illness that thrives on secrets and lies. They’re manipulative and they’ll be the first to admit it. I commend the people that help them everyday, they’re heroes."
