Welcome to Amas Veritas [dot] com

Updates: Media (lyrics) has a new layout. I could never figure out how to lay it out, but it's easier to navigate now. I'm still working on a better duplicate Mamblog mod. I'm trying to make submittions easier but the poetry form died for some reason. Quizzes are also on their way from the old site. Joomla content isn't very code friendly so I'm having to rewrite old code. You can still click on News > AH v21 > Screen if you wish to use the quizzes.

Avril Lavigne's Best Damn Tour Cancellations
Words, 2008 - May
Written by Diana
Sunday, 04 May 2008
I was supposed to go to the Avril Lavigne concert tonight (Sunday) with my sister. My mother bought us seats in the orchestra THE DAY THEY CAME OUT. I've been excited/nervous about it for six and a half months. We were at Bistro 45 for my dad's birthday Saturday night and my sister said she heard that Avril had cancelled shows and I was like, no, you must be mistaken. About 2am I decided I better check online and I read that the San Diego concert was cancelled when fans arrived at the venue. Avril says on her blog that she's taking two days rest after being diagnosed with acute laryngitis. I did a little more research and the Honda Center in Anaheim posted the cancellation of the remainder of her US tour which is about six dates INCLUDING MINE. I obviously can't confirm anything until Universal Studios confirms that she has actually cancelled the concert, but I highly doubt she'll wake up Sunday morning with her voice back to where she can do a whole concert. Her blog doesn't confirm the cancellation of the US tour, only the Phoenix and San Diego cancellations (she posts an apology to her fans who showed up to the concert and were sent home). I text messaged my sister at about 3:30am and at 3:47am I had a reply. I wonder what she's doing up. I was terribly nervous about the concert but now I'm holding back tears. I was working towards this, being able to go to this concert for my favorite singer with thousands of people. I'm not convinced that she'll reschedule. She'll be in Germany at the end of May and I just have no hope that I'll get to see her in concert. I'm not even sure I can go through the stress of preparing for this concert again. It just takes too much out of me. I can't even take my packages to the post office to return some clothes I didn't like, I don't know how I'm going to manage the stress of a second concert date. Such is my life I guess. I took Monday off because I was going to need a day off after this weekend of dinner out for my dad's birthday and then this concert. I'm still taking it off. Now I'm just too upset about the whole thing to be able to focus on work. I hope she gets better and all, but why couldn't she have started her tour in California???

Note: I just went back to Avril's blog and they've also posted the cancellations that Honda Center posted, so I guess that means it's confirmed: Avril Concert Dates Posted

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Since I already posted this once, and lost it due to session issues (!!!!) which Joomla! just can't handle, I'll paraphrase:

Amazon.com is listing, on their front page, the book by JK Rowling, The Tales of Beedle the Bard which was mentioned in the final Harry Potter book. From the look of it, you may think you'll get to buy the book. But, after reading reviews of the stories in the book, you find out it's not for sale. Amazon shouldn't post this book on their site WITH REVIEWS unless they plan on offering it for sale. There are lots of discussions about this, the book's auction, and JK Rowling. Here's my take on one of them:
I agree with LL Nawrocki, but I don't agree with some of the other comments. I don't need it thrown in my face that I'll never get to read this very unique book. Having it posted on the the main page of Amazon is misleading. I thought I'd actually get to buy the book. I think she has every right to make SEVEN COPIES or however many it was and auction one off for charity, that's really all you can do when you have more money than the QUEEN. I think she deserves the acclaim, but Amazon doesn't need to rub it in our face by not even offering the book for sale. By mass marketing the book after this auction, the original hand-written (?) books greatly lose value. So if it was mass marketed, I'd be a pretty angry buyer of a VERY PRICEY book, but at the same time, I think it would sell like Harry Potter volume EIGHT would sell. I think Rowling has every right to do what she did, I think Amazon just sort of slipped up in the somewhat false advertising of it.

Getting to Know Your Friends - Christmas Edition
  1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping Paper
  2. Real tree or Artificial? Real (maybe artificial if I had my own house that the real tree had to go in)
  3. When do you put up the tree? Weekend before Christmas
  4. When do you take the tree down? beginning of January
  5. Do you like egg nog? Gross
  6. Favorite gift received as a child? Not sure
  7. Do you have a nativity scene? Me personally, no, but I believe we have one in the house.
  8. Hardest person to buy for? mom n dad (ditto)
  9. Easiest to buy for? No one’s consistently easy. Whoever gives me “requests” or hints to me early something they would like to have.
  10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, but who has the time?
  11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Don't think i have one (ditto), odd ones maybe, ones where the person thought I was still 8 years old…but never a “bad” gift. It’s the thought that counts.
  12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Miracle on 34th Street (2000)
  13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No!
  14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Artichoke Fondue (we lost the recipe!)
  15. Clear lights or colored on the tree? We’ve only ever had colored, so I don’t have an opinion one way or the other.
  16. Favorite Christmas song? I don’t recall the name of it…it was on a cassette tape that I can’t find :-(
  17. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay home or do the usual ration of relatives houses, travel after.
  18. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? If I tried really hard…probably not.
  19. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Morning
  20. Most annoying thing about this time of year? It’s so all about presents and who got & gave what and how much it cost. I wish we could skip the presents and just get together once a year. Most people have forgotten the meaning of Christmas. Oh, and the need people seem to have to pretend to be happy at all costs. Everyone else then feels like they need to “act” happy and the “happiest time of the year” becomes quite the opposite.
  21. Favorite ornament theme or color? I like those trees with elegant red bows all over and white lights. I’d probably never decorate a tree that way, but I like how it looks.
  22. Favorite for Christmas dinner? We’ve only ever had Turkey or Turkey Noodles (like chicken noodle soup but home made from the Thanksgiving turkey). I don’t really prefer one over the other. Since I’m a vegetarian, they both make for a difficult meal ;-)
  23. What do you want for Christmas this year? See #20 above.
  24. Who is most likely to respond to this? ???
  25. Who is least likely to respond to this? ???
Happy Holidays

Sometimes I get bored...

(Made me laugh:)
Who's the funny one in the fam?
We all have our witty moments.
Me. I can find a funny side to almost everything.
   Me, if sarcasm counts.
Me, I guess... but lately there hasn't been much to laugh about.
My brother thinks he is, but sometimes his "jokes" aren't funny.
I bet my dad thinks he is.
Two of us would have to fight for that title.
   It's a tough call. We're a pretty serious bunch.

You're a sensitive ex.
Right now, we're reaching through the computer to hug you. HHhhhhhuuuuuuuuggggGGG. Can you feel that? Of course you can, because you are that sensitive. You gave your ex your whole heart, and trusted that he or she would always be there for you, and the breakup just tore you to pieces. That kind of pain sucks SO MUCH, but your strong connection to your emotions probably also helps you understand and support other people when they're going through tragic breakups. In a weird way, it's almost like you have sensitivity superpowers. (If you sense that someone needs your help, you're probably right.)

You're barely evil at all.
You… evil? Ha. Nobody's perfect, but you're one of the least evil people who've ever taken this quiz. If you're feeling guilty about something, it's probably only because you momentarily stopped petting a kitten to answer those questions. You would never be intentionally cruel to an animal, a friend, or even a stranger. Reading this quiz is probably the closest you've come to having an evil thought. We don't want you focused on evilness any longer than necessary, so please go back to what you do best -- spreading joy and sunshine throughout the land.
25% of the people who took this quiz got the same evaluation.

You're Hermione from the Harry Potter movies
You're Hermione, the slightly bossy nerd with a hard-to-pronounce name. You're so nerdy that if someone gave you a time-travel device, you'd use it to take two classes at once. A double workload would drive some nerds crazy, but you obsess over packing your brain with knowledge. The only thing more important to you than studying? Using your excellent memory and analytical skills to keep your friends out of trouble.

You are a chocolate chip cookie!
You're sweet (but not too sweet) and you fill other people's lives with tasty bits of awesomeness. You're no perfectionist – in fact, you're a bit disorganized – but your friends find your easygoing personality irresistible. You're so popular and loveable that even when you're having a bad day, people still like having you around.
26% of the people who took this quiz got the same evaluation.

What's Your Roommate Quirk?
You put everything in writing.
You believe it's important for roommates to be friendly to each other, so you avoid face-to-face conflict. Instead, whenever there's a problem you'd like to address, you do so in writing. You probably leave notes in the fridge, on the fridge, on the front door, on people's bedroom doors, and maybe even on the TV. You have a theory that sticky notes were created to solve roommate disputes. An occasional note is a good way to keep in touch with roommates (especially if you have different schedules and don't cross paths much), but if your notes get overly passive-aggressive or confrontational, your roommates might just decide to scan them and post them online for the entertainment of strangers. Arguing in person might seem more stressful, but at least there's less embarrassing evidence after the fact.
